But every time you buy a handsome catalogue or even a postcard reproduction of an artwork, you are to some extent in his debt. The exhibition at the Courtauld Institute (Somerset House, Strand entrance) shows how this came about. In 1651, Teniers was appointed court painter to Archduke Leopold, Governor of the Netherlands and one of the fabulous Habsburgs.  more...
