CRICKET: Banbury's batting misery

From the Oxford Mail, first published Monday 9th Jul 2007.

Banbury produced a miserable batting display against High Wycombe, crashing to a 48-run defeat in Division 1 of the Home Counties League.

Benji Hector's side were skittled out for just 135, chasing a modest 184 for victory.

Things started well for Banbury, Jimmy Phillips claiming the first three wickets to put Wycombe on the back foot.

The home side staged a revival before Paul Taylor removed Paul Sawyer for 74.

Wycombe finished on 183-9 off 66 overs, Taylor (4-36) and Phillips (4-65) the chief destroyers.

In reply, Banbury soon lost openers Chris Smith and Ollie Murray for 11, before Craig Haupt went for a duck, to leave the visitors wobbling on 28-3.

Hector (40) was the only batsman to offer any real resistance to spinner Chris Sketchley, who tok seven wickets as they slumped to 135 all out.
